AWS Features Intel Xeon and Networking Innovation at re:Invent

Nov 28, 2022

Intel drives new opportunities with Sapphire Rapids, EKS-A certification and private 5G networks.

AWS re:Invent kicks off this week in Las Vegas. The weeklong cloud computing conference features a series of keynotes, leadership sessions, technical discussions, demos and more. Here is an inside look at Intel’s longstanding partnership with AWS and some of the technology that powers AWS innovations.

Driving Impact in the Data Center

One of the top highlights coming out of re:Invent is the private preview of Amazon EC2 R7iz instances, powered by 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors. The memory-optimized high-frequency scalable platform enables customers to better support and manage workloads. Key benefits include:

  • Up to 20% higher performance than previous generations
  • Up to 3.9 gigahertz all-core turbo frequency
  • Up to 2.4x higher memory bandwidth leveraging DDR5 memory
  • Up to 50 gigabits per second networking speed
  • Check out the Intel Newsroom article and AWS’ blog for additional details.

Bridging Cloud and Telecommunications

As communication service providers look to build next-generation networks, cloud and edge computing enables scalability, elasticity and programmability to optimize workloads and improved total cost of ownership. However, much of the existing network infrastructure is not currently cloud compatible. To support adoption and migration, AWS and Intel launched an initiative to help telco organizations transition to cloud native solutions. Built on Xeon Scalable processors, the platform will certify Elastic Kubernetes Service Anywhere as well as open source projects. To learn more, check out the Intel blog.

Accelerating 5G Private Networks

Additionally, AWS and Intel shared plans for accelerating the adoption of private 5G networks in the industry. Via global 5G experience centers, end-to-end solutions and joint marketing incentives, the collaboration enables enterprise organizations to personalize their networks according to their specific security, connectivity and scale requirements.

To learn more, be sure to check out the leadership session, “Accelerating Telco Innovation and Impact Through 5G and Private Networks,” with Caroline Chan, vice president and general manager of 5G Infrastructure Division and Network Platform at Intel, on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
